PALM SUNDAY
APRIL 5, 2020

 GREETING AND BLESSING
P: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
C: Hosanna in the highest.

P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.

P: We praise and thank you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was acclaimed Son of David and King of kings by those who scattered their garments and branches of palm in his path.

We ask that you bless those who are worshipping today and grant that we may ever hail Jesus as our Lord and King and follow him with perfect confidence; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.

APOSTOLIC GREETING AND PRAYER OF THE DAY

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C: And also with you.

P: Let us pray. (There is a time of silence.)
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty first chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
P: When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me.  If anyone says anything to you, just say this, “The Lord needs them.” And he will send them immediately.’  This took place to fulfil what had been spoken through the prophet, saying, ‘Tell the daughter of Zion,
Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’
The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them.  A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,
‘Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
   Hosanna in the highest heaven!’
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds were saying, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.’

P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
A: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

Each petition will end, “Lord, in your mercy,”
The congregation responds, “Hear our prayer.”

A: Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for who we shall pray, trusting in your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
C: Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

BENEDICTION
P: The blessing of God the Father Almighty, the wisdom and power of Christ Jesus, and the light of the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always.
C: Amen.

DISMISSAL
A: Go in peace. Serve the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
